The reason I have created this artwork was to show how grateful I am for these powerful women that have been apart of my life as I grew into this woman I am today. The different influences that I have had throughout my life was detrimental towards my art career.
The power that women continue on the circle of life has been forgotten. When the country first started the anglo man came over to the US and seen that the Native American men had the women being the head of the community and what the women would say was what was done. Anglo men changed it around and put themselves in office and the head of everything that we now have come to accept as the norm.
The important things that I learned while creating this photography installation would be, no matter what type of situation that we as human beings go through just think about how much harder it is for the female in your family or your female friends.
The women in the US will have to deal with situations in life that the male perspective will never know about. Please treat all females with respect and honor because without them in your life how can the next generation be born.
My favorite part of creating this installationwould be, getting to know and have that remembrance of my grandmother. Just talking with my mother about what type of woman she was not only in the community but how she found light in every situation and with every issue that was thrown her way. How we used to be inseparable with one another and how I used to treat her with the upmost respect.
I think that the only thing I would change is having my grandmother and grandfather her to see what I have created; I’m very satisfied with the outcome of what I have made so far. From here on out I want this installation to grow, however it may, change is a never ending cycle so I welcome all changes that may happen.
It was difficult to find the items that I have used, I had to make the bookshelf and the white cloth that is over the tables. I also had to refurbish the tables themselves because when I had purchased them they were falling apart. My hardess time was getting my family members to find old photographs and send them to me.
The quality was in poor, poor condition and I had to put in a bunch of work through Photoshop and then printing them out by screen-print. I thought using this type of printing would bring an old style to the photograph instead of using the nice ink jet printers.
I want my audience to be capture by the items that I have chosen to use in my installation. I have had thoughts that this was an older setting such as a grandmother’s bedroom, which is what I was going for. I thought that by making this installation interactive with the sounds, fragrance, and feel that my audience would get a sense of comfortability.
